Paxton Net2 Issue
Not sure if everyone is familiar with Paxton Net2 software but it is basically an access control solutions which allows people in and out of certain areas using door control. It does a lot more than that but that is the basics.
So, onto my story.
We had an issue where our door control unit for the factory was playing up by sometimes recognising the cards or completely blocking people access to the building. Obviously, this was not good and needed fixing, so Matt and I dove in and started investigating this.
We thought it was an issue with the permissions for everyone's card at first but that didn't make sense as it worked sometimes and others it didn't, so we ruled out that idea.
We then though it may be an issue with the readers, so we went down and tested it ourselves and see if it worked for us or if it denied us access as well, and it did the same for our cards as well.
So, we thought it would be a good idea to update the firmware for the readers at that door and see if that would resolve the issue, seems like a logical thing to do, update it and see if there are any change in the firmware... Yeah, we broke it even more, now the door wouldn't recognise anyone card and there were no events of cards on the software. So now we had a situation where no one was getting in or out of this door.
We then immediately called Paxton and asked for their advice before everyone tried to leave for the day. They advised that we will have to restart out Paxton service on the main PC and then reconfigure the door which will erase the settings and add the new firmware to the door.
We did this and then it took about 20 minutes to set its self back up again but eventually it came back online. We tested it and it finally started working with the cards...
This was done literally in time for the factory to use it... Close call
On the bright side, Matt and I have completed out advanced training for Net2 so this was some good practice 🤣
