Printer Driver
So a good customer of Safetynet called up today and said he was having an issue connecting his printer to the laptop, so obviously I remote on and log a ticket whilst its connecting to his machine.
I connect to the machine and can see that the reason he cant print is because the printer driver is not installed, easy and quick job to do. So I go onto the printer company website and download the printer driver for the operating system that he has which is Windows 10.
I download it and send it to his computer, I go through the normal steps of unplugging the printer, installing the driver, plugging the printer back in and trying to print. The printer driver was installed and the printer was showing as a device but for some reason nothing would go into the print queue.
So I have a look, I restart the print spooler, i restart the machine to see if it wouldnt work because of that and I try a variety of things to fix this. No success,..
I go into devices and printers and see that the print driver was not installed correctly...
I dont know why but the driver did not install correctly, so I uninstall the driver and try to reinstall it, it still doesnt work.
So at this point I think its the driver that I downloaded, so I go onto the website again and download a new driver and try that. Still no luck.
1 and a half hours go by now and im going off and on between this client and other ones whilst im waiting for the driver to install. I get really confused by this, so I go to one of my implementation team and ask them for a bit of help, so he comes over and takes a look. He goes through the normal steps and tries to install it himself, he has no luck either.
So at this point it has been arount 3 and a bit hours of looking at installing a printer driver, this is a rediculous time to be remoted on to someone for any issue.
So I call up the company who supplies the printer and ask them about the driver and they asked which operating system I am using, so I say Windows 10. They say that the driver was updated very recently and there has been no issues with it so far appart from mine.
So I decide to check the specs of this PC to see if there was any reason that it wouldnt be able to install the print driver. I look at the operating system and it says Windows 10 32-bit operating system. I have never heard of a 32-bit Windows 10 opeating system before, so I ring up the company again and ask if this driver supports 32-bit and they said no it only supports 64-bit...
For the past 4 hours me and 2 of my coleagues have been trying to install this driver which is not compatable with the laptop...
